My name is Raquel and I am currently a third-year student at Santa Barbara City College, studying Journalism and Environmental Science. I am originally from Colorado, but I’ve loved being a part of the SBCC community, I currently serve as the Student Body President of the Associated Student Government (ASG) and as a staff writer for The Channels, the student-run newspaper. Last year, I was honored to receive the Outstanding Student of the Year award from ASG. I’m also an honor roll student, and I’m passionate about both my academic work and my extracurricular contributions.
My interests lie at the intersection of environmental advocacy and journalism. I’m excited about using both fields to create meaningful change, whether by raising awareness about environmental issues or amplifying student voices. As ASG president, I aim to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all SBCC students and ensure their concerns are heard and addressed.
Outside of my studies and leadership responsibilities, I enjoy hiking, spending time at the beach, attending concerts, and arts and crafts. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow at SBCC and contribute to the community in ways that make a lasting impact.
