Denise Lazaro-Gonzalez was born and raised in Santa Barbara, where her passion for community support began. In 2016, she returned to Santa Barbara City College as a non-traditional student, earning her Associate’s degree in Sociology. During her time at SBCC, Denise worked with the Program Express-to-Success, gaining a deep understanding of graduation requirements and the resources available to students. Her experiences navigating college life helped her recognize the importance of guidance and support, inspiring her to assist others on their educational journeys.

With extensive experience in grant management, Denise most recently served as a Grants Coordinator for the Fund for Health Equity at Direct Relief, making a significant impact in vulnerable communities across the United States. She finds fulfillment in working with youth and is dedicated to supporting at-promise students, helping to motivate and guide them. Denise is excited to join the SBCC Promise team, where she aims to create meaningful change in the lives of local youth.
