Originally from the Bay Area, Sophia Kofoed moved to Santa Barbara to attend Santa Barbara City College and plans to transfer to UCSB. With a background in advocacy, Sophia started a grassroots campaign to improve equity in safety equipment used in girls and boys’ youth lacrosse to prevent the wide disparity of concussions in the game. She co-founded the Brain Safety Alliance and was named as one of the Woman of the Year in 2020 by Girls Inc.

She served as Student Trustee for Santa Barbara City College and was the first student trustee to present at a national conference. She presented on Resolution 18, a resolution to uplift African American students, faculty, and staff through a recognition of our history and implementation of DEIAA practices. She served on the Policy Subcommittee and the Resolution 18 subcommittee in her trustee role.

In student government, she co-chaired the EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) Committee and presented at a regional conference on EBT, chaired the Women’s Leadership Committee, and co-chaired the Resolutions Committee. She currently interns at Congressman Salud Carbajal’s District Office and assists with research, casework, and writing memos. She will serve as SBCC Student Body President for the 2024-2025 year.
